Launched in 2007, Born in Bradford (BiB) is an internationally-recognised research programme which aims to find out what keeps families healthy and happy by tracking the lives of over 40,000 Bradfordians.
The research team works closely with local communities and stakeholders, ensuring that their perspectives and concerns are incorporated into the study design and implementation. Findings are used to develop new and practical ways to work with families and health professionals to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Some important discoveries about health have already come from the research and these new ideas and discoveries are coming ever more quickly as we continue to collect more information. For example findings have already provided insights into the role of factors such as air pollution, maternal stress, and childhood adversity on health outcomes. By continuing to follow these families over time, the project has the potential to uncover valuable insights that can inform public health strategies and improve the lives of children and families.
