Defining a core predictor and outcomes set for health and social care staff wellbeing – a modified Delphi process
Staff wellbeing and retention are some of the greatest challenges facing health and social care in the UK currently, as highlighted in the recent Darzi report. It’s essential to tackle this if we want safe, high-quality health and social care services, staffed by people who feel supported and engaged.
The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber (YH ARC) plans a major new study called ‘Be Well, Work Well’ which will gather data from health and social care staff in the Yorkshire and Humber region to address these issues (https://arc-yh.nihr.ac.uk/themes/improvement-science/).
In preparation, we want to understand the most impactful demands that staff face at work and the resources that can support them. If you work in health or social care in the UK or have academic, strategic or practical expertise in UK health and social care workforce wellbeing and retention we need your help to do this!
We’re asking people to help by taking part in up to three online questionnaires in what’s known as a Delphi process. This involves people rating the importance of different factors, in this case, job demands, resources and associated outcomes, until consensus is reached. The first questionnaire launches in April/May 2025.
More information about what this involves is provided in our information sheet. If you’ve got any questions or would like to take part, please get in touch with Lynn McVey at L.McVey@leeds.ac.uk.
We have ethical approval from the School of Psychology Research Ethics Committee at the University of Leeds (22 January 2025, ref: PSCETHS-1335).
