Cath has worked in Adult Social Care for over 40 years, beginning her career in the London Borough of Newham eventually becoming Head of Adult Commissioning where she developed her track record of setting up community-based alternatives to institutional forms of care. After 13 years in Newham, she moved to the London Borough of Ealing for her first director role as Director of Adult Social Services.
Twenty-one years later Cath has been a Director of Adult Social Services for Sheffield, Derby and as Director of Adults & Health at Leeds until retiring from that role in February 2023 – often holding wider portfolios of responsibility including housing, community safety and public health. She is now working part-time working on a project for Leeds City Council to transform home care.
Her work is characterised by promoting asset-based, community-based services and strengths-based social work practice. Cath has been an ADASS Trustee, co-chair of the national Resources Network and remains co-chair of the EDI Action Group. Her service to social care was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list with an MBE
