Nick Malleson is Professor of Spatial Science in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds, where he leads the Institute for Spatial Data Science (ISDS). His research draws on methods from computer science, statistics and machine learning, and applies them to social problems that have a strong geographical context. He works particularly on agent-based modelling and simulation, geographic information science and geospatial artificial intelligence, with applications across crime, mobility and health. He has a background in computer science (BSc), multidisciplinary informatics (MSc) and geography (PhD), and is co-author of the textbook Agent-Based Modelling and Geographical Information Systems (SAGE, 2019).
