The Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR) has launched its official Instagram channel (@bihr.bradfordresearch), creating a shared visual hub to bring health and care research directly to the public.
Hosted at Bradford Royal Infirmary, BIHR brings together major research programmes and partnerships working to improve health and reduce inequalities, including Born in Bradford (BiB), the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber (YH ARC), the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC), the Academic Unit for Ageing and Stroke Research (ASR), and the NIHR Bradford & West Yorkshire Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC).
The new Instagram account will provide a space to share research news, opportunities to get involved, stories from researchers and public contributors, and accessible summaries of research findings from across the partnership.
For YH ARC, the channel offers another way to connect with people and communities across Yorkshire and Humber, helping to make research more visible, relevant and accessible. It will also provide opportunities to highlight applied health and care research, showcase collaboration with partners, and promote ways for people to get involved in shaping research.
Historically, research findings have often been shared through academic journals and technical reports. The BIHR Instagram channel aims to complement these routes by sharing research in a more accessible format, helping more people understand how research contributes to improvements in health and care services.
Across the channel, followers can expect:
- Public-Facing Research Findings: Plain-English summaries showing how local research is actively changing health services and national guidelines.
- Study Recruitment & Participation: Clear calls to action for local residents to take part in clinical trials, community surveys, and public panel discussions.
- Behind-the-Scenes Insights: Spotlights on the 500+ research projects happening each year, featuring clinical research nurses, data scientists, and academic leads.
- Community Voices: Real stories highlighting how local families and patient contributors shape research questions from the outset.
As part of the BIHR partnership, YH ARC will be sharing content through the channel and using it to engage with patients, communities, professionals and partner organisations across the region.
