Colleagues from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust came together on Tuesday 2nd June for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lecture featuring Professor Tom Lawton and Rush Miah.
Professor Tom Lawton, Clinical Lead for Artificial Intelligence at NHS North East and Yorkshire, opened the session by exploring the role of data and analytics in healthcare improvement. His talk highlighted how clinical analytics can support better understanding of variation in care, inform decision-making, and help identify opportunities to improve outcomes for patients. This work also explores the use of smaller AI models with a lower environmental footprint, which can run securely within hospital systems without the need for data to be sent outside the organisation.
The second part of the session was delivered by Rush Miah, Associate Director of Business Intelligence and AI, who focused on artificial intelligence in the NHS. Rush shared insights from her experience working in data and digital roles, including data engineering, analytics, and data science, and reflected on how AI is being applied across health and care.
The event brought together staff from across the Trust, reflecting strong interest in how data, analytics, and artificial intelligence can support service improvement and enhance patient care.
Professor Lawton’s work is part of the Improvement Academy, the implementation arm of NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber (YH ARC). The Academy plays a key role in translating research into practice, helping ensure that evidence leads to meaningful improvements in health and care.
Events like this play an important role in connecting research, data expertise, and frontline services. They also support YH ARC’s mission to maximise the impact of research and improve outcomes for patients and the public across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Why this matters
