Equity in growing a family: The impact of inequalities in funding for LGBTQ+ couples fertility treatment

Share:

The issue of unequal access to NHS funding for LGBTQ+ couples’ fertility treatment was raised as an issue by two public contributors at the first meetup of the YH ARC-funded community advisory group ‘Shaping Family Well-being’, in Hull in Nov 2023. We have since set up a separate PPI group with six additional LGBTQ+ public contributors from around the UK with lived experience of exploring funding for growing their family. This project will involve semi-structured qualitative interviews, potentially supported by photos taken by participants to help tell their story, to explore the impact of the lack of clear information and the inequities in NHS funding for LGBTQ+ couples wanting to grow their family. We will work closely with the PPI group throughout, and aim to use the findings to help influence changes in current funding systems
