The Yorkshire & Humber Palliative Care Research Network

Share:

Funded by the NIHR, the Yorkshire and Humber Palliative Care Research Network launched in November2022. It is a collaboration between the Universities of Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York, and aims to help address inequalities in palliative and end of life care across Yorkshire and Humber, for people of all ages, by:

  • Increasing research capacity in services and areas where palliative and end of life research has not usually taken place
  • Improving engagement in palliative and end of life research for public, patients, practitioners and those who manage or commission services
  • Delivering more diverse recruitment into palliative care research studies
  • Overall, delivering better evidence about palliative and end of life care, in order to improve care for everyone

Membership is open to; researchers working on palliative and end of life care projects, professionals who manage or commission palliative and end of life care services, health and social care practitioners and members of the general public with an interest in palliative and end of life care, all within the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The network provides regular newsletter on current news items, research opportunities and events.
The successful Practitioner Backfill Scheme allowed eight ‘new to research’ health and social care practitioners in the region to apply for funds to ‘backfill’ for one / two sessions of their time to work with the Network on a service evaluation or research project – supported and mentored by senior researchers within the Network.

The network has created collaboration opportunities which have shaped new bids for research funding on improving palliative and end of life care. Currently the Network has successfully achieved four bids, with a further six awaiting a decision.
