The YH Impact Process

Good research does not automatically lead to change. Moving research into use requires more than dissemination: it takes early planning, the right relationships and support, attention to implementation and improvement, and commitment to learn and adapt along the way.

The NIHR ARC Yorkshire & Humber’s YH Impact Process (Implementation and Mobilisation in PrACTice) was developed to help make that support more visible and systematic.

The YH Impact Process is a practical five-stage approach that brings together knowledge mobilisation (KM), implementation science, quality improvement (QI), communications, and wider organisational support to help projects plan for, deliver and document their pathway to impact.

Developed and piloted during ARC YH’s first funding period (2019-2026) and now fully embedded in ARC YH’s new five-year programme, this guide explains the five interconnected stages in the process and includes the supporting resources needed to put them into practice.
