Over several years the Born in Bradford programme has worked with communities across Bradford District where diverse populations have provided tremendous support to our research efforts. This has helped us build a solid evidence base, helping to improve the health and wellbeing of the District. Working together on so many research projects has boosted confidence and trust in research, giving rise to an interest amongst community organisations to join us as equal partners in producing and delivering research.
The centre for co-production and peer research (CoPPeR) is a network located in the BIHR which focusses on public involvement in research. Our aim is to increase opportunities for public members to take part in research at a number of levels. Our vision is
Vision
To build a robust public involvement system that will strengthen participatory research approaches across the BIHR. This system will operate through partnerships with communities, researchers, and organisations that will foster trusting and collaborative relationships with our communities.
The 5C Objectives
- Communities – placing community involvement at the centre of research
- Culture – creating inclusive, equitable, and active researchenvironments
- Commitment – strengthening long-term dedication to participatory research
- Capacity – building the skills, knowledge, confidence, and infrastructureneeded to support meaningful public involvement
- Collaborative Approaches – embedding co-production, PPIE, citizen science, and other participatory methods into research practice
