Dr Philippa Case is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Hull working on a range of projects to improve the identification and treatment of alcohol disorders in health and care services. She has a particular interest in the needs of high-risk drinkers who experience cognitive problems and coordinates the alcohol-related cognitive impairment theme of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research at the University of Hull.
She started her career as a mental health nurse in acute mental health and community drug and alcohol services, then moved into clinical research and management roles in the NHS. Her Medical Research Council funded PhD focused on the interplay between social support and alcohol consumption at different stages of the life course, and whilst completing her PhD she worked on several smaller projects looking at the population-level impact of Dry January and the change to drinking guidelines.
