This project was funded by the Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Translational Research Centre and is led by a GP respiratory lead, with support from the Improvement Science theme.
Children with poorly controlled asthma can sometimes end up in hospital, and can have higher school absenteeism rates. One way to help children and families with asthma management is via school based interventions, which has some supportive evidence. The research team have collaborated with a primary school in Bradford to co-design an intervention via two sessions: one to explore issues around asthma management and to offer advice, and one to co-design the intervention with children, families and the school to address the issue raised. The Tiny Habits behaviour change method has been used to shape intervention design.
The next steps are to gain feedback from children and families regarding the intervention, ahead of roll out and evaluation across the school.
