There is a need to develop and implement technology to support clinicians’ decision-making, to enable paramedics to better meet the care and needs of ambulance patients. This requires collaboration with industry, who are often the developers of new healthcare technology. A better understanding of the barrier to greater technological advancement in ambulance care settings is required as a first step.
This NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement (DSE) award is focused on improving the ability of academia to partner with healthcare industry, to gain a system understanding of how clinical practice, academia and industry can collaborate. A programme of skills enhancement, studies and mentorship with several industry partners has been established. This includes a qualitative study to understand pre-hospital clinical attitudes to implementing new technology in emergency care. The DSE is completing in March 2025.
