Dacheng Huo, member of the YH ARC Health Economics team, and Research Fellow in the Centre of Health Economics at the University of York presented at the HSR UK Conference in Oxford in July. Dacheng’s presentation explained the cost-effectiveness of improving adherence for asthma treatment.
Asthma significantly impacts the United Kingdom, affecting approximately 12% of its population. Patient adherence to asthma therapies is a critical challenge, with research indicating a direct link between poor adherence and increased acute asthma episodes, contributing to worse patient health and substantial costs to the NHS. These incidents are notably correlated with socioeconomic factors, suggesting broader systemic issues influencing treatment adherence. Dacheng’s study aims to explore the cost-effectiveness of interventions improving asthma treatment adherence, with a specific focus on the role of socioeconomic inequality. The developed model will seek to support the development and implementation of cost-effective interventions to increase adherence to asthma medication.
