Our work in the YH ARC System-level Economic Evaluation Modelling (STEEM) Health Economics Theme focuses on the efficient use of limited resources and maximisation of outcomes for patients. We conduct research to improve efficiency and equity in the use of public resources by providing high quality, relevant, flexible, and accessible research capacity in health economics, evaluation and health inequalities.
Our aim is to work in close collaboration with core themes and their stakeholders on a combined project, creating modelling resources for economic evaluation to use in the ARC and beyond. These resources will enable us to undertake evaluations of topics alongside the core themes and to better understand the current areas of need in the population. We will primarily be working to develop three generic models, covering Aging Society, Healthy Families, and Mental Health. We will remain responsive to changing priorities as these develop over ARC2. We will seek to collaborate with health economics groups in other ARCs, sharing learning and maximising the opportunities for impact.
We lead the way in health economics research and are internationally renowned for our ability to aid decision makers in making health care policy decisions at a national and international level. Professor Laura Bojke and Dr Sebastian Hinde co-lead our theme and team with Professor Tracey Young as deputy lead. We build upon a strong research collaboration between the Universities of Sheffield and York, working with local decision makers and through cross-theme working with the four core YHARC themes.
